Huayi: Tayu 2.0
Lo Tayu
Taiwan
When: 24 Jan 2004 (Sat), 7.30 PM at the Concert Hall

Wherever there are Chinese communities, there is the music of Lo Tayu.

Tayu is the trend-setting songwriter-producer who turned the world’s attention to Taiwanese Pop in the 1980s, and has been making waves ever since. His 1988 solo album Love Comrade sold more than 500,000 copies in Taiwan, while his production house Music Factory was responsible for numerous award-winning albums for many popular Taiwanese and Hong Kong artists.

A prolific composer, Tayu's songs such as Queen's Road East, The Pearl of Asia and Zhi Hu Zhe Ye have become anthems for an entire generation. Tayu won Best Film Score for the film Eight Taels of Gold at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards in 1989, while The Pearl of Asia was chosen by the Chinese Government as the celebratory fireworks music during the handover of Hong Kong in July 1997. Other hits include Love Song 1990, Dream Chaser and Home.

Tayu’s recent collaboration with Chinese orchestral musicians brought a new dimension to his work. In 2000, Tayu kicked off his long-awaited China Tour with a capacity-filled concert at Shanghai Stadium, before proceeding to major cities, culminating in a grand finale in Beijing on New Year’s Eve 2003. This successful tour renewed public interest in Tayu. While his global reputation has been built on his roots in all things Chinese and his songs about the plight of the Chinese diaspora, Tayu’s recent works crosses boundaries and transcends culture.

In this first-ever solo concert in Singapore, the legendary singer-songwriter Tayu will perform his best hits, and new works.
